There is no incentive worth compromising performance. I only use what I truly believe maximises my performance.

Since becoming an internationally regarded athlete I have forged strong relations with a number of companies that support my activities. In return I provide lectures, design advice, staff training and product exposure.

I have become pretty well known to the climbing world and, through writing and speaking have gained a reputation as an honest and reliable character. I guess this is just about true! People can see I use only the best products that I truly believe in, and that under no circumstances am I using kit for financial incentives.

By the time I’d climbed my first hard routes I already knew what worked best for me. In 1995 I was approached by 5.10 and in 1998 I contacted Petzl and Beal. Everyone knows that this is the best kit in the world so was pretty excited to be supported by these brands. Since the first contact I’ve never thought to swap brands.

Recently I have forged a relationship with Marmot. I used their stuff exclusively in Greenland back in 2003 and was extremely impressed. Hence I was pretty chuffed to now be supported also by such an acclaimed clothing company.
